the thoughts of couplands characters are so unreal with realism. 6 people stuck in the same section of a video game producing company, they work together and live in eachothers lives day in and out in what they call the Jpod. driving eachother nuts is no complicated task, as their qualities repel one another just as much as they attract,

you've got your hippie raised curious guy on a discovery rampage who aspires to be nothing more or less than average (John Doe), your slut (Bree), Cancer Cowboy you got guy who requires his surroundings to be edible (Mark), the guy with a martha stewart drug dealing thug killing mama ( & the clever girl who loves him (Kaitlin).

my favourite part of the book is when Jpod's super straight-laced supervisor (Steve) falls in love with Martha S. drug-dealer. her other son's friend, a chinese mobster does her a favour and sends him to China, hooks him on heroin and slings him to a factory in china. coupland touches upon factories in China in a way that disturbs me so.

NOTE: Didn't realize the popularity of this book until I recently saw a television ad informing me a television show is coming! If they follow the book closely to the writing style of Coupland, it is sure to be an unexpected hit among those that know, and those that do not know the pages of Coupland.
