Something Borrowed - By Emily Giffin
I can't tell you the number of times I fit all 3 of of Griffin's "Something" trio under my chin in Indigo, only to place them back down on the bookshelf in lieu of other books. I stocked up on books before I went to Thailand, and only because I was in Indigo chatting up with a lady friend, I picked up Something Borrowed. My girl assured me it will be great and I won't be able to put it down (she's not even much of a leisure reader).
I really did find it to be a page-turner. In the left corner, we have Darcy (the self-appointed / society approved beautiful perfection)! There is no boy that Darcy cannot get. There is no friend that does not cry out for her approval. Except Rachel. Her best friend since they were little girls. Rachel does not cry for her approval, she accepts who she is, and is a self-appointed (not society approved) plain jane living in the shadows of D. Rachel accepts that she will always have Darcy's leftovers (purses, men). Rachel went to law school and met Dex (smart, sophisticated and Griffins words make me envision him to be sexy-as-hell). In a nutshell, she passes him on to Dex, and sure... they make for a nice trophy couple, plan to get married (i mean it, full-out-wedding planning is in action... Rachel being the Maid of Honour and all!), but Dex needs more. And Rachel wants more...These two goodie-two-shoes get drunk at Rachels b-day and they have a fling, which leads into secret lust (oops... then love). Darcy and Dex continue to date, but Rachel can't stand being seconds to Darcy, not this time! It's okay though, because Darcy is cheating too... with Dex's best friend of course! (Who Rachel was dating to throw everybody off of her tail). In a fit of confession, Darcy tells Rachel everything, apologizing for "stealing her man". Rachel plays it cool, but Darcy looks at the night stand and sees Dex's watch. I guess the closet isn't the best hiding spot (didn't R. Kelly teach him anything?!). They're busted! And they stop talking... Anyways, Darcy is pregnant (with Dex's best friends baby) and getting married to him now.
Isn't it funny who people get married to out of being desperate for marriage? She's lucky that guy is even staying, in reality the guy would ditch, because nobody hooks up like that and lasts... Do they?
If I was Rachel, I'd put my tail between by legs and try to never look at her again. The next book in the trilogy is Something Blue (which as far as i know is written in the eye of Darcy, instead of Rachel as per this book) and I expect nothing less than the juicy bliss this book was!
