Benefits of Ice Skating

I'm so excited to go skating tonight with my girlfriends! Skating for the first time of the season always provokes a "I'm going to go skating every week" reaction. I forget how much I love it, til I do it! So even though its -22C, I'm going to play the hearty Canadian and rock it out.

Benefits of Skating:
  • cardiovascular workout: strengthens your heart 
  • improves balance: your yoga practice will benefit from this
  • strengthens your "hardly ever used" muscles around your hips, ankles and knees: yay, my knees kinda suck... also, your other exercises will benefit from this
  • burns mega calories because it works the large muscle groups: abs, booty, thighs, calves
  • mood enhancing: you'll feel like a kid again and may even shout "weeeeeeeeee!!!!": great way to bust stress (any day of the week!!!)
  • winter: if you can't beat it, find a reason to love it... this might be it
Approx. calories burned in an hour? 300! And you won't even realize an hour has passed :)
