Digestive Teas

Digestive woes are common, and we hate to say it but they pretty much affect all of us at one point or another. When our stomachs are hurting, our favourite thing to look to is a tea.

Mint Tea
When you are having crippling gas pains, hurry the eff up and make a mint tea. It seems to disolve the gas. It is also used to treat constipation, heartburn, irritable bowel syndrome, flatulence and... Female cramping! I always keep some mint tea bags on hand ready to be brewed at five minutes notice. You'll also want to bring this one traveling if you are anything like me! I've got a box in my suitcase, and bags in my purse, ready to go at all times. I hear it also helps with nausea but when I'm feeling nauseous I'd rather sip on chamomile tea.

Chamomile Tea
For the longest time I was calling this mancinia (spelling) because that's what my south American father would always call it. If you've got a hangover kind of tummy, please have some. It helps me to slow down or eliminate vomiting. Yes, it's another staple in my arsenal. There are times when you eat way. Too. Much. And your stomach is bulging out, you look minimum six months pregnant. Enter chamomile. It helps kickstart the digestion process. Yay. My favourite mix is chamomile and mint. Undalay, this makes me feel like a million bucks.

Ginger Tea
This one is a bit spicy and I love it when combined with honey. It has a unique flavour and this tea is the easiest to make at home from scratch. Grate a tablespoon of ginger, or if I'm in a rush I just cut off less than an inch. Put it in a pot with enough water to make a cup of tea. Bring to boil. Add honey now, yes, do it! This tea will help the digestive enzymes do their job. And if you add some apple cider vinegar, it can help your body to become less acidic (balance your pH levels!). I guess we should talk about pH levels, we will get to that another day.

At my fave tea shop, Davids Tea, they have one called Digestive Tea. I don't have it on me but I do recall it having mint, anisse, chamomile, catnip and orange peel in it. These are all ingredients that were used in ancient times as soothes for the stomach. It works, I bring it with me places. To the point where I have currently lost it. Sad face.

Stock up!
